A real estate appraiser discovers a house that exists in two realities — and the man trapped on the other side has been trying to reach her for nine years.

The Asher House is a Victorian on a hill in Vesper, Oregon. When owner Lenora Asher dies, the bank sends appraiser Blythe Calloway to value the property. Blythe discovers the house is doubled — every room has a twin space layered just behind it, separated by a permeable threshold. In the double, a man named Elliot Mercer has been living for nine years, leaving messages through the shared furniture and architecture.
